Student Newspaper Relaunch

On 2^nd November 2006 Escape Artist re-launched Edinburgh’s largest student newspaper Student. Cargo, one of the capital’s newest and largest clubs played host to over two hundred press and pap guests who for once were making headlines rather than writing them. Turning out in their glad rags and supping free champagne, Edinburgh’s young journalists schmoozed to the tunes of Ratty B, from Edinburgh’s favourite ‘Trouble DJs’.

Student is the oldest student newspaper in Britain, founded in 1887 to succeed another publication run by Robert Louis Stevenson. It has a long and distinguished history; past editors of Student include the Chancellor Gordon Brown and the Speaker of the Scottish Parliament Lord Steel, while contributors have included Robin Cook MP and TV presenter Sally Magnusson.

The night celebrated Student’s distinguished past with an exhibition of photographs taken by student photographers spanning the history of the newspaper.
